The Separation Anxiety Programme

When Your Dog Cannot Be Left Alone

When Your Dog Cannot Be Left Alone

The cancelled plans. The phone that has to stay on. The guilt that follows you out of the house every time you leave.

Separation anxiety changes everything. Not just for the dog, but for the human living alongside them.

If your dog barks, howls, panics, paces, destroys, soils, or refuses food when left alone, you already know what this looks like. You know what it has cost you in time, in sleep, in social life and in confidence.

You are not failing your dog. And you are not exaggerating. Separation anxiety is a real, recognised emotional response, and it is also one of the most misunderstood behaviour issues in the dog world.

Why Choose Us

Why most advice does not work

Most owners reach me after trying Kongs, calming sprays, gradual absences, white noise, leaving the radio on, doggy daycare, anxious goodbyes turned into casual ones. Some of it helps a little. Most of it does not.

The reason is simple. Separation anxiety is not a behaviour problem in the traditional sense. It is a fear response. Treating it like obedience, distraction or willpower will never resolve it, because the underlying emotion is what needs to change.

Real progress comes from a structured, gradual process that teaches your dog they are safe when alone. That work has to happen in your home, with your dog, in the absences you actually need to make.

That is exactly what this programme is built for.

Why Choose Us

The Separation Anxiety Programme

This is a fully remote programme designed for dogs experiencing separation related distress and for the owners living with the daily impact of it.

Across the programme, your training plan is updated and adjusted five days a week through a dedicated training app. Every exercise, absence target and progression is tailored specifically to your dog, based on the videos you submit and the progress they are making. Alongside this, we work through the plan together with structured video reviews, ongoing Loom feedback, monthly Zoom check ins and WhatsApp support throughout the programme.

You record short absences from your dog at home. I review them and feed back so you can see exactly what your dog is showing, what is working and what to adjust next. The plan evolves continuously as your dog progresses, ensuring every step remains appropriate for the dog in front of us.

What is included

  • A full initial behavioural and gait assessment.
  • A separation anxiety plan tailored to your dog and your daily life.
  • Ongoing video reviews through Loom across the programme.
  • Monthly 30 minute Zoom coaching sessions to step back, review progress and reshape the plan.
  • WhatsApp support across the full programme for day to day guidance.
  • Continuous plan adjustments as your dog moves forward.

For owners who want to make a start but are not in a position to commit to the full programme, a shorter foundation version is also available.

Background and qualifications

  • Separation Anxiety Pro Trainer, certified by Julie Naismith.
  • Certified Dog Behaviour Consultant (CDBC) with the IAABC.
  • Dynamic Dog Practitioner.
  • BAT Instructor, certified by Grisha Stewart.

Why fully remote

Separation anxiety training has to happen during real absences. No trainer in the room with you means your dog is responding to the absence itself rather than performing for a visitor. This is why the most effective separation anxiety work in the world is delivered remotely. It is the method that works.

Why a whole dog approach matters

Underneath many separation anxiety cases sit physical factors that often go unseen. Pain, discomfort, postural issues, gait abnormalities. They make absences harder for the dog and can stop training plans working no matter how carefully they are followed.

As a Separation Anxiety Pro Trainer (certified by Julie Naismith), a Certified Dog Behaviour Consultant with the IAABC, and a Dynamic Dog Practitioner, I work with both the emotional and the physical sides of separation anxiety. I am currently the only professional in Ireland combining these two specialisms.

Spaces are limited

Separation anxiety work is hands on and individually tailored, with detailed video review, regular coaching and ongoing WhatsApp support. To keep the level of support consistently high through the full programme, I work with a small number of separation anxiety clients at any one time.

Lea came to visit us as we have a rescue Collie with many issues. Separation anxiety and he didn't sleep at all. We tried a few things including medication but nothing worked. Lea’s expertise and constant communication helped us hugely. We now have a dog who is relaxed sleeps(it took five months) which is unbelievable. Lea was in constant contact with us suggesting different angles. Most of all we felt Lea really had our interests at heart. I would highly recommend her to anyone with doggie issues. Ursula Hayes

It's been 2 months since Lea visited us to help with our reactive dog. She helped us understand his behaviors and explained what we should do. She really understood our dog and us. Answered all questions and taught us how to help him. With everyday training Rafti's much calmer now and so am I 😁 He still needs time to feel safe around other dogs and not to scare them away. But after 2 months we see improvement, he's less reactive and slowly starts to ignore other dogs. We're so happy to see small steps forward and Rafti is happy with 'doctor's orders' with his new harness and daily chewing and licking snacks 😁

Lea has been amazing and did a great job with 2 super anxious beings, my little pup and myself! She was super supportive, always really paying attention to the well being of the little one and celebrating every tiny step! Treating separation anxiety is a real journey, there's no miracle, it's about consistency and patience. Thank you so much!

Lea has been great! In prep for his first flight to Canada, I was quite anxious about my puppy being able to stay in the bag and remain calm for the entirety of the trip. He went from not being able to enter the bag to a world traveller puppy that remained calm in his bag for 6hrs on a transatlantic flight. Lea was flexible and did extra sessions with him to get him fly ready with a huge success. She gave me tips and homework to get him ready and was very helpful. I don't know how I would have done it without her.

Great experience with Lea! We needed help in teaching our dog to stay home alone, without getting anxious, damaging the home or driving our neighbours crazy with barking. Following Lea's advice and practicing the exercises she gave us, we are able to leave our dogo alone at last (and now he even snores throughout the whole time).

We rescued our lurcher April 2022. When we got him he had very bad separation anxiety. We gave him a couple on months to adjust to us and the house. We didn’t go outside the door. I came across Lea and harmony paws online and we agreed to have a consultation to help Rafa. From the moment we met Lea I knew this was going to work. She explained how a dogs mind works and developed a plan to start getting Rafa the help he needed. Lea scheduled meetings online everyday for a month and took us step by step in the training process. We continued training for 3 months reducing the meeting times month on month until we were confident enough to do this in our own with guidance from Lea. She won’t just leave you because she cares. Rafa is now a very confident dog and well able to stay on his own for a couple of hours no problem. I can’t highly recommend Lea enough if you stick with her you will reap huge rewards.

Took classes with Lea, she has such a way with dogs. Cody learned so much from her classes and we continue to teach him all we learned. Excellent trainer. 5 stars for Lea.

We got in contact with Lea after struggling with our rescue dog (Dobby's) separation anxiety for 9 months. We felt we had tried everything with very little success and when we first met Lea, we couldn't reliably leave Dobby for even 2 minutes. In the last session of our 4 week programme, we hit a personal best of 60 mins without Dobby being fussed in the slightest. Lea was so supportive throughout the 4 week period and really cared about Dobby's progress. Whilst we still have some time and work to go to really embed this, we are now really optimistic that we will get there! We are already reaping the benefits of a happier and more independent dog and would recommend Lea to anyone who is struggling with separation anxiety!

I contacted Lea to help me train my 4 month old pup Marley. I was so impressed with Leas enthusiasm and how well Marley reacted to her. Marley has been responding so well to the training. I loved the fact that Lea sent me a full training guide link so I could refer back to it if I needed it. I would highly recommend. Marley is now 6 months and is doing amazing. Thank you Lea for all your help.

I reached out to Lea as my dog was finding it difficult to settle when we moved home and he was also struggling with separation anxiety. We had a thorough consultation where Lea delved into the issues and she gave really comprehensive advice which was tailored to our specific situation and needs. She has checked in since our consultation about my dog‘s progress and offered follow-up advice - which was really appreciated. Most importantly, my dog has made huge progress since we have followed Lea’s training advice.
